What to Expect?

Our Tuition Programme involves the teacher explaining new material and then working through examples. Students are expected to follow this up by tackling new problems, which become more difficult. Students should expect to find exercises harder than perhaps they are used to in school: getting stuck is good if you respond with determination to get unstuck.

As A-Level Mathematics builds continuously on previous work, it can be difficult if students fall behind. Not only do we ensure our students have a very thorough grasp of the fundamentals, so that they can concentrate on the new material but also encourage them to put in at least five or six hours outside lesson time.

Students can expect a large amount of time in all our sessions to be dedicated to solving problems. Sometimes they do so in pairs, often they will work by themselves.

How we nurture confidence and raise achievement?

As our students do Mathematics, we encourage them to reflect on what they are doing, and why they are taking a particular course of action, then they gain valuable insights into the way that they learn. Afterward, they are also encouraged to consider what they found easy or difficult, the mistakes that they made, and the merits of different approaches, so they can confidently adjust how they do things in the future. Research demonstrates that students who regularly reflect in this manner demonstrate greater perseverance and success in solving mathematics problems.

As this subject builds continuously on previous work, it can become difficult if you get behind. You have a very thorough grasp of the fundamentals, so that you can concentrate on the new material.

When students join us, we strategically expose them to diagnostic questions to establish which areas need focus.

We check our students’ understanding by ensuring they complete our end of topic tests.

We consolidate revision for each topic by focusing on what to concentrate on in the build-up to exams, with special focus on common pitfalls such as how to correct workings.

We boost our students’ confidence in approaching exams by coaching them through a lot of exam-style questions.

Helping every student soar!
